Tension as gunmen reportedly kidnap Nigerian monarch after attending traditional wedding

Eze Charles Iroegbu, the traditional ruler of Umueze Nguru in the Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo state has been kidnapped by gunmen.

The Punch reported that the monarch was kidnapped along with some cabinet chiefs of the kingdom when returning from to a public function within the state.

The publication stated that the gunmen intercepted and diverted the three vehicles that were conveying Eze Charles Iroegbu, and his cabinet chiefs.

A source said the kidnapping of the respected traditional ruler has caused fear and panic in the community.

According to the source said:

“His Highness and his cabinet chiefs were on the back from a traditional wedding ceremony in Mbano when they were kidnapped. This is unbelievable and there is fear and panic everywhere.”

The abduction has caused anxiety within the community because the kidnappers had not established communication since they kidnapped the monarch.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Imo police command, Orlando Ikeokwu, said he could not confirm the abduction.

In another report, some gunmen on Wednesday, March 24, raided residents of Kiyi town in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), abducting at least four persons, Daily Trust has reported.

According to the newspaper, one Mr Salami Olalekan who is reportedly a member of staff of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCTA) is among the kidnap victims.

The publication stated that William Salami, an elder brother of the victim, said the kidnappers made a demand of N200 million, N50 million for each hostage.
