Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman urged experienced players to step up their game before his side thrashed Eleche in a La Liga fixture at the Camp Nou, Daily Mail.

Lionel Messi produced a five-star performance on the night to give La Blaugrana hopes for a title chase this season.

The likes of Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele as Messi and the youthful squad turned up in the second half to three unreplied goals.

Koeman was quoted by Daily Mail:

“When I spoke about the experienced players I was not talking about him.

“He keeps scoring lots of goals. It’s the others that have to start making a difference, not Messi. He is already making a difference and he did it again in this game.”

Though Messi was not happy with his team’s performance in the first 45 minutes as the game remained scoreless before the break.

Koeman added:

“Everyone could see that we lacked intensity in rhythm in the first half. It’s a good thing that as the captain Messi demands more intensity.

“I was disappointed with our play and the rhythm we were playing at. We were a bit slow. We were much better in the second half.

‘”We played better inthe second half and that made the difference. We needed to make changes because there are so many games and we needed fresh legs.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Barcelona returned to winning ways as they got the better of Elche by 3-0 in a La Liga fixture played at the Camp Nou.

Lionel Messi scored a brace and one of which was his trademark goal as Jordi Alba put the cherry on the cake.

Trincao threatened the visitors in the second minute of the tie as the Portuguese youngster forced a brilliant save from Edgar Badia.
