A Nigerian lady with the Twitter handle @Chichi_Arinze has shared six different types of documents a person must have in their vehicles whenever they are stopped by transport officers.
She said that she had to make a thread on the issue because a client of hers was stopped and had to call her.
Below are therefore the 6 different documents she listed:
1. Driver’s licence
She said that it is the first that would be asked whenever a driver stopped and the check for the card’s expiry date of the document.
2. Proof of Ownership
This document, according to her, is issued by the Vehicle Inspection office during one’s car registration among other papers.
She added that this document is important to have when one is buying a Nigerian used card.
3. Insurance certificate
The lady revealed that the document could be got with the sum of N5,000 from the National Insurance Corporation of Nigeria. She, however, advised Nigerians to get comprehensive insurance.
4. Certificate of roadworthiness
“The document certifies that one’s document is fit for the road and saves one being charged by VIO officials. The span is a year and it is renewable afterward.”
5. Certificate of vehicle registration
With this, one’s vehicle shows that it is registered under Nigerian law. Like the certificate of roadworthiness, it is also renewed yearly.
6. Hackney permit
She said that this is only applicable to commercial vehicles.
