Former Nigerian minister appears in court over alleged N5bn fraud

For Senator Stella Oduah, her legal battle is just about to start as she appeared in court on Monday, February 22, over misappropriating public funds to the tune of N5 billion.

In a report by Channels TV, the former aviation minister and current representative of Anambra North senatorial district at the National Assembly was arraigned before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleged that Oduah misappropriated public funds while serving as a minister along with eight others.

The former minister and eight others in a 25-count charge have been accused of fraud and diversion of funds through the operation of anonymous bank accounts.

However, the arraignment was however stalled for the second time on Monday, when the EFCC was unable to serve two suspects in the trial.

The prosecutor, Hassan Liman, prayed for leave of the court to serve the defendants at their respective addresses.

Justice Ekwo adjourned the matter until April 19 for the suspects to take their plea in the arraignment.

Earlier, reported that the EFCC filed charges against Oduah over alleged fraud.

The charges were filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja. The anti-graft agency claimed the alleged fraud occurred when the senator served as the minister of aviation during the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

However, Oduah’s trial was stalled due to her absence from proceedings on Tuesday, February 9.
