In what looks like a royal verdict, the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba Ewuare Ogidigan (11), has approved the sack of the presiding priest of Holy Aruosa Cathedral, Ohen-Osa Harrison Okao, for alleged non-compliance with the ancient long tradition of Benin City.

The Nation reports that the decision was jointly taken by the traditional head of the church, HRM Oba Ewuare the second, joint elders committee and top palace chiefs after Okao was found guilty of violating the long-standing rules of the church.

Legit.ng gathered that a statement by Benin Traditional Council (BTC) secretary, Frank Irabor, said the removal of the former top priest of the church would restore sanity and lasting peace to the foremost Benin national church.

The report noted that Okao was also ordered to hand over the church property in his possession as the Ohenosa to the head Iweguae Chief Esere.

He was also warned to stop any financial transaction within the cathedral.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Governor Nyesom Wike and top members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were warned against turning themselves to political godfathers for Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state.

It was reported that the warning was given on Tuesday, September 29, by Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Square II, when Governor Wike led some PDP members to his palace on a “thank you” visit following the reelection victory of Governor Obaseki.

While addressing his visitors, Oba of Benin reminded PDP of its detest for godfatherism and urged the party not to become one for the newly re-elected governor.

In a related report, John Mayaki, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state, told Governor Godwin Obaseki not to blame the former national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, for the failure in his second term.

He said Obaseki and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are ‘suffering delusionary obsession with Oshiomhole’ amid repeated calls for the governor to explain his alleged reckless borrowings.

Mayaki, however, dismissed the attribution of his criticisms to Oshiomhole as a feeble attempt to distract people from the substance of the matter, saying he had not seen Oshiomhole since the September 19, 2020, governorship election.
