The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the commencement of e-ticketing for train services on the Abuja-Kaduna route.
The NRC Managing Director, Fidet Okhria, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, January 13 in Abuja that the process would be on test run for a week before its formal inauguration on Wednesday, January 20.
His words:
“We have commenced the e-ticketing for the Abuja -Kaduna train service today. We intend to test-run this process for about a week after which the formal inauguration will be done at the Ministry of Transportation on Jan. 20.
“The essence of this e-ticketing is to enable people to access tickets easily with fewer hurdles and especially during this period of social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The minister of transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi also confirmed that the e-ticketing initiative has commenced in a social media post.
Some Nigerians have been commenting on the initiative via social media.

About time NRC digitize and also play safe during the pandemic. Can’t say much for the bad eggs amongst them. I hope this will bring about the best service Nigerians clamour for.

This will help remove middle men and touting. Can we have the website/app secured please?

Whew! That’s a relief. I checked it out yesterday and signed up. When I read the notice from NRC this morning, I had to enter my voter’s card ID to sign up.

There have been reports of a collision in ticket numbers. I believe issues like this are not unlikely due to the fact that the process is just starting.

Fantastic. Hope all loopholes were envisaged and plugged. Purchasing bulk tickets for reselling, for example. Tickets should have names like air tickets.
