The Speaker of the United States’ House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, has told President Donald Trump to resign following the Capitol violence which led four people dead.

The New York Times reports that Pelosi said on Friday, January 7, the that the House could impeach the president if he fails to resign due to his role in inciting the violence which took place at the Capitol.

Legit.ng gathers that Pelosi who belongs to the Democratic Party also called on her colleagues from the Republican Party to join the push to get President Trump out of office.

The Speaker said she had instructed the Rules Committee to be on standby to move forward with other options should the president fail to resign.

In another statement sighted by Legit.ng on Saturday, Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer issued a joint statement on their efforts to reach Vice President Mike Pence about invoking the 25th Amendment.

The two principal lawmakers said they have called the US vice president to urge him to invoke the 25th Amendment but were yet to hear from him.

The 25th Amendment is another way a US president can be removed by his cabinet members.

APC reacts to Capitol violence

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has condemned the attack on the US Capitol by the country’s citizens who were protesting alleged voter fraud in the 2020 election.

In a statement signed by its national secretary, Senator John Akpan Udoedehe, the APC extolled the virtues of the US’ democratic system but noted that a leader with integrity is also very important.

The party noted that President Buhari acted like a true democrat when he lost elections by taking his case as far as the Supreme Court.

In another report, President-elect Joe Biden has lambasted President Trump over his recent attitude.

Biden who said Trump’s decision to skip his inauguration is “one of the few things he and I have ever agreed on” called him an embarrassment.

“This clearly shows he is not committed to an “orderly transition” like he said yesterday. No surprise, another lie. Again, what is he planning to do? Have a rally or something? He is dangerous and this is why he needs to be removed. We can’t predict what else he will incite.”
