The Lagos state government has announced that all schools in the southwest state are to reopen for academics from Monday, January 18.
Punch reports on Monday, January 4 that the announcement was made by the state’s commissioner of education, Folasade Adefisayo.
In a statement released by the spokesperson of the state’s education ministry, Kayode Abayomi, Adefisayo said the new date was in line with federal government’s directive that schools should remain closed at least until that date.
A part of the statement read:
“All public and private schools below the tertiary level in Lagos State should be reopened for the second term 2020/21 academic session from Monday, 18th of January, 2021.
The state government noted that strict COVID-19 regulations must be adhered to.
“Schools should have flexible plans where students and teachers who feel sick can teach or learn from home via available online platforms. Schools should also strive to avoid any COVID-19 infection among all students and staff,”
Additionally, the state government directed all teachers, students, and visitors to wear facemasks all the time.
They should maintain social distancing and wash their hands regularly with soap under running water.
Legit.ng reported earlier that the Lagos government on Sunday, January 3, ordered that all schools in the state should remain closed till further notice due to the spread of the second wave of COVID-19.
The announcement was similarly made by the spokesman of the ministry of education in the state, Abayomi.
Abayomi explained that the government’s earlier order that schools should resume from Monday, January 4, cannot hold anymore following the new spike in the number of coronavirus cases.
