The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has told Nigerians to be health-conscious due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The traditional ruler warned that from all indications, the second wave of the pandemic appears to be deadlier than the first, The Tribune reported.
He gave the warning in his Christmas/New Year message to Nigerians, PM News reported.
The monarch said:
“The pandemic is very much around. It is erroneous to think that the rampaging virus has gone after the first wave.
“The wave of coronavirus we are dealing with now is deadlier than what we had in the first two quarters of the concluding year 2020, so I want to appeal to our people that it is not yet over.”
According to This Day, the Ooni stated that reports from some parts of the world, indicate that strains of the disease made some people blind while others lost vital organs.
He noted that such new development showed that the disease can have devastating effects on the health of individuals.
The monarch advised Nigerians to abide by COVID-19 protocols such as the wearing of face masks, avoiding crowds, and washing of hands.
Meanwhile, Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, has revealed that he will impose a fresh lockdown on the state amid scare of the deadly coronavirus’s second wave.
The governor, who spoke on Sunday, December 27, in Ikwerre local government area, said the lockdown will be imposed in January 2021.
Wike attributed the proposed imposition of lockdown on Rivers to the lackadaisical attitude of the state’s residents to the precautionary measures against the COVID-19 infection, Channels TV reported.
