– Bishop Kukah may soon appear before the ICC if CNG carries out its threat of dragging him before the criminal court
– The coalition issued the threat following an allegation of nepotism raised against Buhari by the cleric
– Meanwhile, Nigerians have dismissed the group as sycophants
For his blistering criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari, the bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah, has been threatened by some northern groups.
The coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) alleged that Kukah made an attempt to instigate violence in the country with his Christmas day state of the nation address.
As a result of this, it threatened to drag the respected cleric to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The coalition argued that Kukah was trying to portray the north, the Hausa/Fulani and Muslims in a bad light.
The coalition claimed this is capable of instigating Rwandan-like genocide in Nigeria.
Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, the spokesperson of the coalition, insisted that the language employed by the cleric follows the same pattern employed just before the Rwandan massacre of 1996, Leadership Newspaper reports.
However, CNG said it is not contending the claims of the current administrative lapses.
Going further, it said it does not intend to fault the right of people to criticise the government.
CNG argued that the portrayal of northern Muslims in regards to this current administration is contrary to what is on ground.
It added that they are the major casualty of the Buhari administration’s serial misgovernance in terms of security, economy, distribution of key federal appointments and essential goods and services.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Lauretta Onochie, Buhari’s aide on social media, lent her voice to the ongoing saga involving the Bishop Kukah.
Onochie, in response, insinuated that Kukah’s outburst may have come as a result of Buhari refusing to part with money.
In a post on her Twitter page on Monday, December 28, she said both the president and the cleric have met a number of times and she shared photos to back her claim.
