Cristiano Ronaldo has once again edged his fiercest rival Lionel Messi to a massive award

– The Portugal captain has been named 2020 Player of the Century during the Globe Soccer Awards

– CR7 congratulates other award recipents as he also thanks fans for voting him

Portugal and Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo has thanked fans for voting him to become the Player of the Century during the 2020 Globe Soccer Awards.

The 35-year-old who has won plethora of amazing prizes, beat both Ronaldinho and Mohamed Salah to the award, with Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski named as the ‘Player of the Year’ for 2020.

CR7, a five-time Balon d’or winner, smiled on stage in Dubai as he was named the greatest football player from 2001 to 2020.

The delighed star received ober 21 million votes from fans across the world to win it ahead of other nominees.

He wrote:

“Coudn’t be happier with tonight’s award! As I’m about to celebrate my 20th year as a professional footballer, Globe Soccer Player Of The Century is a recognition that I receive with so much joy and pride! Once again, great Gala tonight in Dubai at such an amazing place as Burj Khalifa.

“Congratulations to Robert Lewandowski on his Player Of The Year Award, to Hans-Flick as Coach Of The Year and to Pep Guardiola as Coach Of The Century. Also to Casillas and Piqué for their Career Awards, and last but not least, congrats to my friend Jorge Mendes on his Agent Of The Century Award.

“Finally I must thank, once again, to the Dubai Royal Family for the respect, friendship and hospitality that I allways receive in wonderful Dubai, and to all the fans that voted for me in such a huge worldwide online voting with over 21 million votes.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Bruno Fernandes’ tenth goal of the season against Leicester City makes him the second Portuguese player after Cristiano Ronaldo to score ten goals in a Premier League campaign.
